And now for an American Perspective...

Sharon and I are having a wonderful time in New Zealand.. The activities that Hein and Anka have planned have been exciting and well thought out. But, unfortunately along with the great planning that Hein has made he has embellished his blog to make us look bad.
On our Alpine Crossing hike it is true that Hein and Anka were finished 30 minutes before us, but was not told was why. On our way climbing up the mammoth mountain we came across a struggling dutch woman who had injured her legs during the climb.. She was struggling badly and as Americans always do, we offered her assistance. We gave this woman our walking sticks to aide in her climb. At the top of the mountain she was suppose to give us our sticks back so we could use them to manage the steep and slippery downhill descent. But, at the top of the mountain she had decided to turn around and go back down the way she came up.. without returning our sticks! It took us over 30 minutes to chase her down and retrieve our sticks. Perhaps she thought that since we live in such a blessed country that we would not miss our sticks. If we had not stopped to be of aid to this dutch woman I am certain we would have easily beat Hein and Anka down the mountain.
Between the hiking and dare devil mountain biking we tested our limits and overcame these dangerous conditions.. but nothing was as dangerous as watching Hein, in a moment of forgetting he was not in Amsterdam, drive on the right side of the road directly towards a car coming towards us. We survived.
Our vacation has been great fun and my only regret is not better preparing for the rigorous hiking and biking we are undertaking. What a wonderful country making me wish that America was Great again..
